How about them Eagles, eh?

Ateneo has swept the first round of both the seniors' and juniors' divisions in this year's UAAP basketball eliminations. I'm not used to us winning so many games, and in such convincing fashion (poor UST, they didn't know what hit them). It's freaky, like something out of a parallel universe. For years we were the underdogs living in the shadow of those goons from Taft. Now, with our beloved rivals out of the picture, we're actually playing some impressive basketball this season (yeah, Kramer, I'm talking to you). Apparently, green-and-white really is our kryptonite, because with LaSalle absent from the tournament, the Eagles are finally learning how to fly.

This winning streak is kinda scary though. We have a history of peaking too early (2004 immediately comes to mind), so to me at least, our sweep of the first round forebodes doom for the second round. Pessimistic, perhaps, but the battlecry of "We Believe" is old, and realistically, something's gotta give (let's just hope it's not Intal's knee again).

In the meantime, I'm enjoying basking in the triumph while it lasts. So this is what it feels to be LaSallian. Hah.

If it's any consolation, I was studying in China the year we won our last championship. Now that was a major bummer (had to watch the final game via webcast over Pinoycentral... do they still have that?). A teacher of mine's wondering whether I should go back to China so we'd win again this year. :p

i'm not the biggest blue eagle fan in the world, but i have to admit to feeling a smidgen of school pride given how well they're doing :D

to people who say we're just doing well because la salle isn't playing, i just say that shouldn't even be point of comparison. who knows what would have happened had all the games been clean? would la salle have been anywhere near as dominant if they didn't fiddle with the system?

Chaaaaars! I miss you! =D Yeah, to all the naysayers out there (especially my parents, haha) who dismiss our winning streak as "just because LaSalle's not around", I retort that they can't prove that we would NOT have swept the first round even with DLSU playing. There's no point in debating the what-might-have-beens. It's LaSalle's own fault that they're not a contender this year. It should not diminish the impact of the feats achieved by Ateneo.

Enuhski, is that you? :) Thanks, and di na bale, magaling naman kayo sa cheerdancing e, and that's wehre we suck. Haha.
